Gifts

Let's talk about gifts.

I personally adore the culture of giving and receiving gifts. Gifts symbolize the thoughts and care from the gifter to recipient. Although the gift itself may not always be what the recipient needs or wants, it’s truly about the thoughts and the process.

Gifting is a form of joy. The gifter spends time going to the store or online, chooses something that they think would be the most ideal item for the recipient, for the occasion.

I'm thankful for the current age we live in, there is never shortage of choices thanks to the invention of industrialization and trading during human history.

However, it does become a dilemma to receive gifts when we're in the middle of decluttering. The last thing we want is more things.

There are no right or wrong answers, so the appropriate approach is to find a good balance.

I welcome gifts. If I can use anything, that's awesome. If anything turns out to be unsuited for my current lifestyle, I'd put it in the donation bin right away. It's better that all gifts and things are brought to a place who can find purpose in them, than being stored away and forgotten.

When you receive someone’s gift, that is the greatest gift to the gifter, because you've shown your gratitude and their joy has been shared, everyone wins. What you'll do with the gift afterwards, is up to you.
